PRESS RELEASE
Sunshine Coast Museum & Archives’ COVID-19 Closure March 16, 2020 The Sunshine Coast Museum & Archives will take a proactive role in helping to lessen the impacts of COVID-19 on the Sunshine Coast by closing on March 17, 2020 until further notice. This decision has been made to protect the health of our visitors, volunteers, and staff during this challenging time. Many of our visitors and volunteers fall within the most heavily impacted demographic, and we feel that it is prudent to take an abundance of caution based on the recommendations of Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry. Core Museum staff will continue to work through the closure and be available for Research Requests and other Museum related inquiries via telephone and email. Please save those in-person artifact and archival donations for a later date; we will gladly provide assistance at that time. During this closure, we would like to highlight a variety of online Museum resources, including our virtual Museum tour, online photograph collection, and digitized newspaper database. These resources are available free of charge to all members of the public. We are also proud to offer a series of place-based historical videos on our Youtube channel; we encourage you to get outdoors and explore some of the fascinating histories of our region. Let’s all do our part to help lessen the spread of COVID-19 by practicing social distancing, handwashing with soap and water, and staying informed by the BC Ministry of Health and Health Canada with the most up-to-date and accurate information. It is also the time to offer assistance to neighbours and community members in need, while supporting local businesses in pandemic-appropriate ways. Please contact the Museum if with any inquiries or questions: scma_manager@dccnet.com 604-886-8232. A big thanks to Travel BC for naming us one of the top community museums in BC! We are honoured to share the list with our colleagues at the White Rock Museum, Whistler Museum, and Creston Museum. Take a look at the other great musuems listed here.
